For input, I'm using a Umax Astra flatbed scanner for scanning the paper sketches, an oldie but goldie Olypmus 3030-Zoom digital camera or my Wacom Intuos 2 graphic tablet (a must for any graphic designer).
I'm tracing my paper drawings using Xara, the most intuitive and powerful vector drawing software, I simply love it. After tracing, I'm exporting the vectorial graphics as a .tif file to Photoshop, I can add there colours, shadows or lights using the layer system (and the blending modes).
Sometimes, (lately more often) I'm working directly on the PC using for that the graphic pen/tablet (I haven't used a mouse since 2003 :)!). I'm using Alias SketchBook Pro for... sketches or even for finished illustrations.
